Nearing the End of the (Short) Story (Month)

Nearing the end of National Short Story Month, and as I say about the ending of any good short story–too soon! Too soon! So, as promised, some more titles of short story collections shared with me by my closest friends from Facebook.

Liz: Not the End of the World, by Kate Atkinson. Series of linked short stories about the end of the world told with wit and imagination. Also, I love that I found it in the dollar bin at the grocery store.

Mark: In Between the Sheets by Ian McEwan, for its dream-quality stories and concise prose. He’s always a full-on imagist, too.

Michael: So many. I’ll go with Hemingway’s In Our Time because it was (and is) authentic, innovative and influential.

Eliza: Big Cats, by Holiday Reinhorn. And, St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, by Karen Russell.
