A taste from the wonderful night at Women and Children First for the book launch of THE TEMPLE OF AIR. (Note: the file for the clip is rather large, best viewed on a high-speed connection.)
Slideshow of me reading at Second Story, Martyrs Bar, Chicago, at the beginning of Story Week 2011. The captions are lines of text from the piece that I was reading. I will link to video from this event as soon as it’s available; thanks to Philip meanwhile for putting this together.
Fascinated by family stories and the combination and interplay of text and image, Philip and I put together this installation about my grandfather’s time in Korea as a motorcycle missionary in the early 1900s. We called it “Climbing the Crooked Trails,” after a line from one of his letters to a colleague and fellow motorcycle enthusiast. My grandfather’s name, by the way, was Victor Hugo Wachs. I hope to one day write his story. Or at least my own version of it.
